THE MAYORAL COMBINED AUTHORITY

To better reflect who we are, the communities we serve and the way we work we changed our name on 17 September 2021 from “Sheffield City Region”, to the “South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority”.

The South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) is a formal partnership of councils that shapes policy and leads on decision-making. Formed in 2014, the constituent members of the Mayoral Combined Authority are Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley and Doncaster councils.

On 4 May 2018, Dan Jarvis was elected as Mayor of the Sheffield City Region and became Chair of the Mayoral Combined Authority. Dan Jarvis announced in September 2021 that he would stand down at the end of his term.

On 6 May 2022, Oliver Coppard was elected as Mayor of South Yorkshire and became Chair of the Mayoral Combined Authority.
