FROM 22 MARCH A NEW CHAPTER FOR SUPERTRAM BEGINS
Published 15 March 2024 at 12:50pm
From Friday 22 March South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) will take over ownership of South Yorkshire’s Supertram, operated by a newly formed operating company South Yorkshire Future Tram Limited (SYFTL).
The change in ownership forms part of our wider ambitions to position Supertram as part of a fully integrated public transport network for South Yorkshire. We are exploring opportunities for renewal, improvement and even extension of the network and will be engaging in public consultation to help shape the future development of Supertram.
What changes should we expect?
Existing Supertram colleagues will be transferred over to the new business. Customers can still expect the same service after the transition. In fact, you shouldn’t notice any changes.
As Stagecoach will no longer be operating the tram network, there will be some changes to ticketing and Stagecoach bus and tram tickets will not be valid for tram travel after Thursday 21 March. Tram-only products can be purchased on the Stagecoach website and Stagecoach App until 21 March and will be accepted on the tram until they expire.
A new app selling tram and TravelMaster tickets will be available to download from app stores from Wednesday 20 March. More details will be shared over the coming days on the Supertram and Travel South Yorkshire websites, and on our social media channels. In the meantime, if you need any support regarding your ticketing choice, please contact the TSY team.
We are introducing a 10% discount on some tram-only fares until 30 June 2024. This discount will apply to tram and app purchases, on 1, 5, 7 and 28-day tickets, purchased onboard the tram or via the app. The discount does not apply to singles and returns.
If you currently use TravelMaster tickets to travel by tram, these will be unaffected, and you can continue to use these from 22 March onwards.
For any new tickets, you’ll still be able to buy tickets onboard the tram from our conductors or from our new app. Travel South Yorkshire ticket vending machines will also offer a range of combined bus and tram tickets.
If you are adversely impacted by the change in operating company, please call 0800 952 0002. Our customer service teams are available 7am to 7pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 7pm Saturday and Sunday. We can help.
Information about how to download the app and purchase tickets will be shared in the coming days on Supertram.com and Travel SouthYorkshire and on our social media channels. In the meantime, if you need any support regarding your ticketing choice, please contact the TSY team.
