MAYOR DAN JARVIS THANKS PENNY BLACKHAM FOR HER WORK AS CHAIR OF THE MUSIC BOARD

Penny Blackham has stepped down from her role as Chair of the Sheffield City Region Music Board. Penny led the board during an unprecedented time, which saw the South Yorkshire music industry deal with the pandemic and the challenges posed by Brexit.

South Yorkshire Mayor Dan Jarvis said, “Penny has done a tremendous job during such a challenging time. She has done fantastic work representing the region’s vibrant music industry at a national level whether through lobbying for government support and or fostering a better understanding of issues affecting our local music industry. We wish her every success for the future.”

Alongside South Yorkshire MPs, Penny appealed to the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Oliver Dowden in Summer 2020 to provide more support for the music industry.

Mayor Jarvis continued:

“Penny has been a champion for the music sector, establishing the Music:South Yorkshire social media channels and advertising much needed opportunities to the sector.

The Vice Chair of the Music Board Frank Wilkes has also stepped down from his position on the board and I would like to thank him for his commitment as well.”

A review of the Sheffield City Region Music Board governance is currently being undertaken and adverts for the roles of Chair and Vice Chair will go out in the autumn.
