ROTHERHAM INTERCHANGE - THREE MONTHS ON

Published 8 March 2018 at 12:02pm

South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) has now released new drone photography to give customers an idea of the scale of the works at Rotherham Interchange. The first fly-by can be viewed at youtu.be/ITKRBOXSzi0.

“As captured in our drone footage, work is progressing well at Rotherham Interchange. In the Interchange itself, the old seating, lighting and other fixtures and fittings have been stripped out including all of the glazing, automatic doors, internal cladding and electrics. The disused toilet block on Platform C has been demolished to create what will be a more open and inviting area, said Tim Taylor, Director of Customer Service at South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE).

“External cladding on the car park has been removed ready for replacement, with the car park also due to be resurfaced and relined to take into account larger, modern vehicles. Electric vehicle charging points and improved pedestrian routes will be introduced too. Solar panels will also be installed on the car park, which will provide a low maintenance, renewable energy source for the site, reducing the operational costs for SYPTE.”

Other refurbishment works on the Interchange include improved lighting, glazing, automatic doors, seating and Passenger Information Displays, new flooring and an improved CCTV system and new public Wi-Fi.

While the works take place the café, shops in the mall and customer toilets will remain open. A cash and card ticket machine is available at Rotherham Interchange, and customers can also use a ticket machine at Forge Island.

The refurbished interchange and car park are part of the Rotherham Town Centre Masterplan, led by Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council (RMBC) and the site is expected to re-open in early 2019.
