DONCASTER URBAN CENTRE - QUALITY STREETS
Published 16 August 2021 at 4:22pm
The key towns and core city of the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority region are undergoing a private sector led urban renaissance. The SYMCA uses its available capital funding to help unlock private sector investment including transport connectivity.
The Combined Authority will consider the proposal through its usual project assurance framework to make sure that any investment unlocks economic growth and contributes to the SYMCA's ambitions to create 70,000 additional jobs, build 7,000 homes a year and create £3.1bn of additional GVA.
The project includes refurbishment and enhancement of public realm and footways within the core town area, including Hallgate and Silver Street. The project increases the attractiveness of these areas, complementing three earlier phases of investment; increasing footfall and retail usage.
This project, which has completed, includes a contribution from the Government’s Local Growth Fund resources which is part of the Government’s continued investment in the Northern Powerhouse.
This investment aims to deliver 80 jobs.
SYMCA LGF allocation: £1,350,000
Total project cost: £2,067,000
