GREY TO GREEN PHASE 2
Published 17 August 2021 at 11:05am
The key towns and core city of the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority region are undergoing a private sector led urban renaissance. The SYMCA uses its available capital funding to help unlock private sector investment.
The Combined Authority will consider the proposal through its usual project assurance framework to make sure that any investment unlocks economic growth and contributes to the SYMCA's ambitions to create 70,000 additional jobs, build 7,000 homes a year and create £3.1bn of additional GVA.
Seeking to arrest a decline in the Castlegate area of Sheffield City Centre the project extends the existing grey to green corridor with enhancements to Castlegate, Blonk Street, Exchange Street/Place, Haymarket, Snig Hill/Castle Street and the former markets site.
Further information on consultation arrangements can be found on Sheffield City Council’s website.
This project, which has completed, includes a contribution from the Government’s Local Growth Fund resources which is part of the Government’s continued investment in the Northern Powerhouse.
This investment is planning to deliver 766 jobs.
SYMCA LGF allocation: £3,320,000
Total project cost: £5,083,865
A full record of endorsements and approvals is held on file at the SYMCA offices.
