TOUR OF BRITAIN 2024
Stage three of the 20th edition of Britain’s biggest professional cycle race took place across South Yorkshire on Thursday 5 September 2024. The challenging route took in some of our region’s most famous and hardest climbs, providing a real test for the world’s top riders.
The riders tackled 2,282m of climbing over the 166km route, taking in all four boroughs of South Yorkshire, starting on Arundel Gate in Sheffield city centre, and passing through Rotherham and Doncaster, before an uphill finish on County Way in Barnsley.
Categorised King of the Mountains climbs tested the riders at Loxley (Long Lane), Oughtibridge (Jawbone Hill), and Hound Hill on the outskirts of Barnsley, the summit of which came with just four kilometres of racing remaining.
Stevie Williams rode to a back-to-back victory at the Lloyds Bank Tour of Britain Men, as the Welshman took his second stage win of the race to extend his lead at the top of the general classification.
Thank you to everyone who came out in force along the route to support the riders and enjoy a day of world-class cycling right here in South Yorkshire!
