Registering to vote
The electoral register (or Electoral Roll) is a list of the names and addresses of everyone who is registered to vote. If you are not on the register, you cannot vote.
Every local authority holds and manages the electoral register for their own area. To vote in the Mayoral Election you must be listed on the electoral register for either Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham, or Sheffield Councils.
If you are already registered with one of these authorities, you do not need to do anything further. You will automatically receive a poll card through the post. You will also receive a booklet with voting information about the Mayoral Election when it is posted out in April after all the candidates are known. If you are not sure if you are registered, you should check with your local electoral services office.
If you aren’t already registered, the easiest and quickest way to register is online at gov.uk/register-to-vote.
If you can’t register online you can download and print a form here or contact your local electoral services office and they will send you the form.
You must provide your name, address, nationality, date-of-birth and National Insurance Number when you apply to register.
The deadline to submit a registration application for this election is Tuesday 16 April 2024
