MAYOR DAN JARVIS: STATEMENT ON HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL DAY

Mayor Dan Jarvis commented on Holocaust Memorial Day. He said:

“Although this year’s Holocaust Memorial Day event has to take place virtually, and we are unable to be together in person, we will be together in spirit.

“Just this month we have seen the danger that extremism can wreak on our society, with the horrifying attacks on the US Capitol in Washington, and the power of rhetoric to incite violence – especially when it comes from political leaders. This serves as a stark reminder that democracy is fragile, and that we all have a responsibility to confront this sickness at the heart of our political discourse. Before it is too late.

“On Holocaust Memorial Day we will remember those people and communities – Jewish people, Black people, Roma, LGBT people, Jehovah’s Witnesses, political dissidents and others – who lost their lives in humanity’s darkest hour. We will commit to stand firm against the scourge of antisemitism, racism and bigotry that poisons our society today. And we will pledge to say: Never Again.”
